The icon from the Deesis tier originally belonged to an iconostasis of the fourteenth century.
The Archangel Michael is depicted in a three-quarter turn to the left. In his right hand he holds a staff, and in his left a transparent sphere. Large red-brown wings with green underwings outline the silhouette of the figure, giving the composition a clear vertical emphasis. The saint’s halo is gilded and decorated with an engraved geometric ornament.
The background of the icon is light ochre.
The icon has survived only fragmentarily: the lower part of the panel has been cut down to the level of the archangel’s knees, and the upper part to the edge of the raised border (kovcheh).
