Work description

The Deacon’s Doors originally belonged to the iconostasis of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Zhovkva.

Archangel Michael appears standing on clouds, dressed in military armor. He wears a cuirass with a cross on the chest, a helmet with a plume, and greaves; a cinnabar-red sash crosses his chest diagonally from left to right, with its ends flowing below the waist on both sides. In his right hand, the archangel holds an upright sword, while in his left he holds scales.

The low ground area is depicted as a mountainous landscape. The gilded background is decorated with poured gesso and engraved ornament.
