Виставку творів Марії Примаченко (1909–1997) присвячено 110-літтю від дня народження яскравої представниці «наївного» мистецтва, Народного художника України, лауреатки Національної премії України ім. Т. Г. Шевченка. Понад шістдесят робіт із приватної колекції (Київ) та зі збірки Національного музею у Львові ім. Андрея Шептицького репрезентують її мистецький спадок 1960–1990-х років.
У творчості Марії Примаченко органічно поєдналися витоки українського живописного та поетичного фольклору. Уже першими роботами, виконаними в 1930-х роках, Марія Примаченко заявила про себе як про художницю з особливим світобаченням, яке не мало аналогів ані в українському, ані у світовому мистецтві. Перед глядачем постав дивовижний «примаченківський» світ звірів, фантастичних істот, птахів і квітів. Передусім це – декоративно вивершені та композиційно врівноважені картини, які відтворюють архаїчні фольклорні сюжети й вірування, «оживляючи» зооморфних істот, персоніфікованих звірів, птахів, свійських тварин.
Міфологічні істоти, запозичені з легенд краю, в якому зростала мисткиня, знайшли своє оригінальне відображення на папері. Неповторні образи переносять нас у світ народної фантазії, давніх вірувань, переосмислених і заново сформованих невгамовною творчою уявою майстрині. Водночас вони споріднені з традиційним народним мистецтвом України, зокрема рідного для авторки Полісся. З часом формат робіт набуває більших розмірів, змінюються і зображення.
У 1960–1980-х роках М. Примаченко перейшла від дещо прозорої акварелі ранніх творів, із графічно чіткими контурами, до віртуозного поєднання пластики ліній і повнозвуччя кольорів. У назвах своїх картин, у віршованих рядках-поясненнях образного себевираження та світовияву художниця прагнула висловити свою любов до людей, своє захоплення світом природи, величчю неба і багатством землі. Особливе місце у творчості мисткині займають квіткові мотиви, численно представлені на виставці: «Майори» («Майориї – дарунок воїнам нашим»), «Чорнобривці», «Чорноморські квіти» та ін. Примаченко наділяє їх певним смисловим навантаженням. Яскраві, декоративні, незвичні за формою та кольором, вони підносяться до рівня «дива» й уплітаються в естетично-філософське трактування взаємозв’язку людини і Всесвіту. Внаслідок цього утворюється синтез сюжетної конкретності, казкової алегорії та рудиментів традиційного орнаменту. Твори набувають багатоплановості, сприйняття їх ускладнюється. Емоційний досвід художниці та її емпіричний підхід до природи і речей набирають особливої сили.
М. Примаченко творила нову реальність, інший, новий світ, у якому завдяки тільки їй властивим художнім засобам і прийомам птахи, звірі, тварини, рослини наділені якоюсь магічною силою сприйняття. Зокрема, базова основа мистецької своєрідності художниці – народний живопис – стала генератором її власних, лише їй притаманних, естетичних засад і принципів самовираження. Фантазія мисткині гротескна, свідомо чи інтуїтивно, втім, спрямована на збудження глядацького сприйняття її образного світу.
Значущим видається образ птаха – споконвічного уособлення добра, щастя, любові, миру, посередника між Небом і Землею: «Чайка з чаєнятами» («Чайка в осоці пливе з чаєнятами»), «Попугаї на вазоні гудуть…», «Космічна птиця з людей сміється…» та ін. Квінтесенцією творчості майстрині є декоративні панно зі зображеннями звірів і фантастичних істот, які вражають своєю неповторністю. Це – унікальні витвори, в яких уява Марії Оксентіївни сягає високої алегорії. Аркуші з казковими тваринами та птахами («Смехородію комар укусив», «Звір хитрий…», «Рябушка у м’яча грає» та ін.) дивують невичерпністю творчої уяви художниці, грою примхливих форм, сміливим колірним рішенням.
Характерною ознакою «примаченківського» мистецтва є тематичне багатство. У 1970-х роках художниця все частіше зверталась і до сюжетної картини, наділяючи її рисами алегоричності. У сюжетних полотнах М. Примаченко відтворює майже всі сторони сучасного життя, починаючи від казкового осмислення побутово-селянських мотивів і закінчуючи творами на наболілі суспільно-політичні теми. З особливою поетичністю в її композиціях показано казки, пісенні образи, картини народного буття, обряди, свята і будні. Твори того часу («Українська сорока: ч-ч-ч…», «А у лузі калина…» та ін.) позначені синтезом динамічності та статики, свободою трансформаційних форм, що розгортаються на площині.
Твори 1980–1990-х років вражають сміливою декоративністю збільшених форм. У цих картинах усе відчутніші роздуми про час, про людську долю: «Зажурилася голубка…», «Гуляння навесні». У 1980-х роках художниця опрацьовувала Чорнобильську серію: «Чорнобильська біда людям наробила навсігда горя», «Квіти виросли коло четвертого блока»).
Марія Оксентіївна Примаченко творила майже до останніх днів свого життя і залишила людям безцінний спадок, що викликає особливі асоціації, спонукає до роздумів, запрошує глядача у казку, в її глибинний поетичний світ із таїнами, одкровеннями, загадками.
